The NEVI Program

What is the NEVI program?

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program is a landmark initiative by the United States federal government which during the five-year period will invest a total $5 billion in the roll-out of public EV charging infrastructure across the nation. The aim of the program is to lay the foundation for an EV charging network consisting of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030 along the nation’s interstates, highways and in communities.

The program was established through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021 and will provide funding to the States to deploy EV charging infrastructure with an initial focus on the designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFC).

Four CCS charging ports

Our NEVI solution consists of four small-footprint CCS charging dispenser (160 kW / 320 kW) with a surface area of only 16”x16” per dispensers. Together they easily meet the minimum power level requirement per site (≥600 kW) as well as per charging port (≥150 kW).

Battery-buffered system

Each ChargeBox system is equipped with an integrated 140 kWh nominal battery storage unit. The battery booster enables high-power charging, even on power-limited grids.

Accelerated time-to-market

The use of a battery-buffered system avoids costly and time-intensive expansions of the electricity grid by only requiring a reduced grid connection power. Additionally, the extremely compact design as a complete system provides for an easy and fast on-site installation.

Demand charge savings

DCFC charging sites create short-term sharp levels in demand which in turn can cause high demand charge fees from utilities. Demand charges are an integral part of the cost-of-service principle of electricity markets. By only requiring a third of the grid connection power, the ChargeBox system generates substantial demand charge savings.
